A Caribbean Mystery by Agatha Christie

This book reminded me a little of the one James Bond movie that's set in the Louisiana swamps with the voodoo witches and all the racist situations and side characters. Obviously this book is set at a fancy Caribbean resort and in the 50s, so a lot of the maids and the help are written about just as caricatures, and there are lots of references to how these "island people" don't get married and just have babies... it was definitely not a modern book with a modern view of other cultures or peoples.

But, the mystery itself was still fun. Miss Marple is in the Caribbean on a vacation provided by her always-wonderful nephew Raymond, and of course, she gets caught up in trying to help solve a murder that happens to one of the guests while she's there. There are a few other murders that happen as the story goes on as well--Christie seems very fond of having two other characters be killed off while the murderer is trying to quiet anyone who could rat him out and before Miss Marple is able to figure out who it is. I thought the story was interesting and I wasn't quite able to guess who it was, and I enjoyed this book.

I don't know that I would enjoy reading this many Miss Marple mysteries in a row, but I am having a great time listening to them. It's not annoying at all when you're just listening and getting to enjoy the characters and Miss Marple's fluffy ways.
